TEFA with an IEP: 2026-27 amounts for every Austin-area district

A TEFA student with an IEP gets $10,474 plus what their home district would have received for the IEP's instructional setting, up to $30,000. Here are the totals for 29 districts in the five-county Austin area. A Austin ISD student with a mainstream IEP (code 40) gets $16,779.

Sources. Texas Comptroller, Special Education Funding Table 2026-27, which lists the add-on by district and instructional code. The add-on is added to the $10,474 base, and the total is capped at $30,000. Funded counts are from the TEFA Annual Demographic Report (data as of July 29, 2026). Every district shown sits inside Travis, Williamson, Hays, Bastrop or Caldwell County.

Find your code

Look in the IEP's placement or least-restrictive-environment section for the instructional setting code. Code 00 means speech services only. A student taught mostly in regular classes with support is usually code 40.

Why the districts differ

The state formula pays smaller districts more per student, which is why Coupland, Granger, McDade and Prairie Lea outpace Austin ISD and Round Rock ISD for the same instructional code.

Only at a participating school

The add-on reaches the account only for a student enrolled at a participating private school or pre-K/K provider. Homeschooled students with an IEP receive the standard $2,000.
