Schools built for learning differences
Rawson Saunders serves students with dyslexia. Bridges Academy Austin specializes in dyslexia and dysgraphia, Capitol School of Austin works with young children who have speech and language challenges, and William's Community School focuses on autism and other neurodivergent conditions. Odyssey School, Fusion Academy's one-to-one model and Harmon School are also in the finder.
What the IEP adds here
For 2026-27 a mainstream IEP setting totals $16,779 in Austin ISD, $17,035 in Round Rock ISD and $16,988 in Pflugerville ISD. Residential codes 81-89 reach $25,552 in Austin ISD and more in smaller districts.
Getting an IEP on file
The add-on needs an IEP from 2023-24 or later that TEA has on file by the end of the application period. If your child has only a private diagnosis, ask your public district for a full evaluation now. It can take months.
Therapy outside school
Speech, occupational, behavioral and dyslexia therapy are TEFA expenses when insurance or Medicaid don't cover them. Dozens of Austin-area therapists and tutors are approved vendors, listed on our provider pages by specialty.
When the gap is large
Specialized schools usually cost more than even an IEP-boosted account. Ask about the school's own aid, and look at the 2027 federal scholarship credit, which names special-needs services as an eligible use.
