The add-on mirrors the special-education money your public district would have drawn for the setting in your child's IEP. That means two families with the same IEP can see different totals if one lives in Austin ISD and the other in Wimberley ISD.
For 2026-27 a mainstream setting (code 40) totals $16,779 in Austin ISD, $17,066 in Leander ISD, $17,035 in Round Rock ISD and $16,949 in Hays CISD. Resource and self-contained settings (codes 41-45) land between roughly $15,700 and $16,000 in those four districts. A speech-only IEP (code 00) adds under $1,000 in each.
Smaller districts are funded at a higher rate. In Coupland, Granger, McDade and Prairie Lea, a mainstream IEP tops $20,000, and the residential codes reach the $30,000 cap. Our district table covers all 29 districts in the five counties.
The amount follows the IEP, not a diagnosis. A private evaluation can help, but only an IEP that TEA has on file raises the account, so ask your district for an evaluation well before the next application window. Homeschool students with an IEP stay at $2,000.

Totals are the $10,474 base plus the district add-on from the Comptroller's 2026-27 Special Education Funding Table, capped at $30,000. Funded counts come from the TEFA Annual Demographic Report (data as of July 29, 2026); districts with fewer than 30 participants aren't listed in that report. All Austin-area districts →
Combining it with other sources
Most families pair this with the school's own aid and one or two other sources on this site. A funding check lays out which combination works for your child and in what order to apply.
