School-Based Tuition Assistance

Austin-area private schools run their own need-based aid, sibling and parishioner rates and employee discounts, and every one of those can be combined with TEFA.

The Comptroller's tuition rules say a school can't charge a TEFA family more than anyone else, and it has to keep honoring general discounts such as sibling, staff and church-member rates. It is allowed to factor the TEFA award into need-based aid.

Many Austin schools reported discounts to the state finder. Where they did, the school's page on this site shows them.

Before you sign an enrollment contract, ask the business office three things. Has the school joined TEFA? Will it bill on the state's July, October and February schedule? Which fees, such as books, uniforms and lunch, can be charged to the account?

Combining it with other sources

Most families pair this with the school's own aid and one or two other sources on this site. A funding check lays out which combination works for your child and in what order to apply.
